Norwich v Wigan: Canaries to guarantee safety with crucial win

Published:

A majority of people predicted these two sides would be scrapping to avoid relegation at this stage of the season – but that piece of soothsaying has only proved to be the case for one of them.

While Wigan are still rooted to the foot of the table, Norwich are enjoying the safety of mid-table and know a win against the Latics would all but guarantee them at least another season in the Premier League.

However, Wigan look set to make changes from the team that was so poor against Swansea City last weekend, with Victor Moses, Mohamed Diame and Hugo Rodallega all promoted from the bench.

Those three men don’t look like helping Wigan to three pints though…

Match odds

Norwich are the 10/11 favourites for this clash and it’s hard to see beyond a win for Lambert’s stylish side.

In the five home games they’ve played against teams below them in the league, they have won four and drawn one.

Meanwhile, Wigan have the third worst away record in the division and have won just once on the road this term – a 2-0 win against fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers.

They are 10/3 to get a win, while the draw – which was the outcome when the sides met earlier in the season is a decent 9/4.

Goal markets

Wigan have kept just two clean sheets in their previous 12 away games and have found the net just three times in their last eight.

Backing there to be under 2.5 goals in this clash looks the bet at 1/1 – especially when Norwich have hit just four goals in their previous five games.
