Luke Donald shows US Masters credentials with Transitions win
Published:Luke Donald’s impressive victory at the Transitions Championship has seen the Englishman’s US Masters odds cut to 14/1.
Donald came through a four-man play-off to claim his first title of 2012 and reclaim the World No.1 spot from Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.
It was a gutsy performance from Donald who shot a final round 66 and then birdied the 18th to win the play-off.
The impressive victory is further proof that Donald has upped in game in the past season and is turning his solid performances into victories more than he’s ever done.
It bodes well for the US Masters next month and Donald is convinced he can withstand the extra scrutiny heaped on the World No.1 as he bids to win his first major title.
“There might be a little bit more hype around me now. I’ll probably be able to go about my business with a bit more attention, but I’ve been through that.
“I still think Rory and obviously Tiger will be getting a lot of the attention. I can kind of go about my business and not have to deal with as much as those two are dealing with.”
McIlroy is still the 4/1 favourite to win his first Green Jacket but the year’s first major is shaping up to be a thrilling battle.
Tiger Woods is 6/1 to add to his four Masters triumphs and 14 majors and is thought to be healing well after pulling out of the final round in Doral last week with an Achilles problem.
He is scheduled to play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational next week and we’ll have a better idea of how he may perform at Augusta after that.
