Liverpool v Everton: Toffees can make life difficult for misfiring Reds

Published:

Everton’s traditional post-Christmas climb up the table shows no sign of slowing down as they head to Anfield for this Premier League clash against Liverpool.

A win for the Toffees would see them climb above Liverpool in the table and, the way both sides are currently playing, that certainly shouldn’t be ruled out.

However, the Reds have lost just once at Anfield this season – a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal – and taking all three points will be easier said than done for the visitors…

Match odds

Despite their poor form, Liverpool head into this game as the 4/5 favourites.

The Reds saw off Moyes’ men 2-0 at Goodison Park earlier in the season and Everton haven’t beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 1999.

However, Everton are now nine games in all competitions without defeat and are 7/2 to get the win they need to take them above Liverpool in the table.

A better bet though may be to back the draw at 5/2 – all of Everton’s previous three away games have finished in draws and three of the last four meetings between the sides at Anfield have all ended level.

Goal Markets

All of Everton’s previous three away games, as well as finishing in a draw, have also finished 1-1. The same score in this clash can be backed at 6/1 – a result Liverpool have had five times at Anfield already this season.

Meanwhile, with none of Everton’s previous six games yielding over 2.5 goals and Liverpool hardly looking threatening in their 1-0 defeat against Sunderland at the weekend, backing under 2.5 goals looks tempting at 4/6.

Finally, Andy Carroll opened the scoring the last time these sides met and he is 5/1 to do the same this time out.
