Ferrer and Li to exit in 11/1 tennis shocks at Sony Ericsson Open

Published:

Big upsets have been absent so far at the Sony Ericsson Open in the men’s draw, but Julien Benneteau can change that by eliminating David Ferrer at the third round stage at 7/2.

The women’s draw is another round further forward and although third seed Petra Kvitova is out, it cannot be classed as an almighty shock as this defeat was against wild card Venus Williams.

Little-known teenage Spaniard Garbine Muguruza Blanco has created a bigger stir by dumping out both Vera Zvonareva and Flavia Pennetta, but may now have her hands full with Agnies Radwanska.

Therefore, it may be left to Sabine Lisicki to provide the fourth round shock against Na Li at 6/4 and the Lisicki and Benneteau double pays a healthy 11/1.

Julien Benneteau to beat David Ferrer @ 7/2

Ferrer is perhaps the form player on the ATP circuit in 2012, with three tournament victories and just two defeats to date, one of which came against Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open.

However, it is the other that is off interest, against Denis Istomin at Indian Wells last week.

Benneteau is of a similar ranking and more importantly has won half of his six career meetings with Ferrer, including both to have been played on hard courts.

His recent form is also solid, as the Frenchman reached the final in Sydney.

Sabine Lisicki to beat Na Li @ 6/4

Lisicki may not have started 2012 in the best form and heads into her clash with Li having been beaten in six of her last nine matches.

However, she has rediscovered some of her better form in Miami in straight-set victories over Sofia Arvidsson and Shuai Peng and has won both of her career meetings with Li.
