Everton v Arsenal: Visitors to extend fine Goodison record

Published:

It has been more than five years since Arsenal last suffered a Premier League defeat to Everton, and the Gunners can extend that unbeaten run by conquering the Toffees at 11/8 on Wednesday night.

Everton, notorious for vast improvement during and after the festive period under David Moyes, are 21/10 to claim a fourth successive home league win, whilst the draw, which would be the Blues’ fifth in their past eleven games, is available at 11/5.

The visiting side are in a rich vein of form at the minute, winning their past five Premier League matches en route to becoming serious challengers for the table’s third place berth, whilst racking up 19 goals in the process, and so the 3/1 odds for Arsenal to win with three or more goals occurring in the game look massive.

We have seen both teams score in seven of the past ten encounters between these two sides in league competition, and so the 8/11 odds for either side to find the net here should give punters a good run for their money, even if they are slightly skinny.

What looks a more attractive bet at a generous 7/2 price is for Arsenal to win the match with both teams getting on the scoresheet, as has happened on three of the Gunners’ past four visits to Goodison Park.

Also, bearing in mind that these sides have gone in level at the break in six of their past eleven meetings, the 4/1 odds available for them to be drawing at half-time, with Arsenal triumphing at the final whistle seem worthy of investment too.

An obvious pick for first goalscorer is Robin Van Persie, and despite his price being reduced dramatically since early season fixtures, the Dutchman still seems a superb bet at 7/2 to get the opener.

For the hosts, Nikica Jelavic bagged his first Premier League goal in Everton’s last home win over Tottenham, and he could complete a double against North London sides by notching first at 6/1.
