Another trip to London to end in a heavy defeat for Newcastle

Glorious failure is about as much as Arsenal could have hoped for from their European exertions and the feel-good factor is not set to desert them as they dismantle Newcastle – the Gunners are 6/4 to score over 2.5 goals.

Two points from the last nine available suggests Newcastle’s charge for Europe is inevitably beginning to falter and they won’t relish a trip to the Emirates.

Defeat on Monday would see them eight points from fourth and surely end any lingering hopes of an unlikely Champions League place.

The Toon have a wretched record on their travels against the Premier League’s top eight sides, having lost four of five, conceding an alarming 17 in the process.

And while their struggles in the capital were seemingly a thing of the past, Alan Pardew’s side have shipped five in ugly defeats at Fulham and Spurs in recent weeks.

Wenger’s men are 10/3 to score four or more in another forgettable away day for Newcastle.

Arsenal meanwhile can’t stop scoring at home, having netted an extraordinary 18 times in their last four matches at the Emirates.

And their record against Newcastle points to another goal glut for Arsene Wenger’s side. The Gunners have scored at least three times in six of their previous eight meetings with Newcastle.

In five of those eight clashes, Arsenal have lead 3-0 at some stage, and it might therefore be worth backing 3-0 as an anytime correct score at 10/3.

Ironically, the sides played out a goalless draw on Tyneside on the opening day of the season, but such is the fragility of both side’s back fours that a repeat performance is highly improbable.

Prior to their 3-0 win over Milan, Arsenal had failed to keep a clean sheet in six successive matches in all competitions and they’re 7/4 to win to nil in this one.
