Wales can overcome England challenge in Grand Slam pursuit

Wales travel to Twickenham this weekend, hoping to build on back-to-back victories en route to a Grand Slam, which they are priced at 2/1 to win.

Warren Gatland’s men have enjoyed a blistering start to their Six Nations campaign, and the ruthless nature of their victories over Ireland and Scotland has seen them cut to 11/10 favourites to win the tournament.

Full-back Leigh Halfpenny though, who has turned in two supreme individual performances in the Welsh openers, has insisted that solely winning the tournament will not do, as he aims for a second Grand Slam in four years.

He said: “At the end of the day we want to be the best. That means winning every single game and achieving the Grand Slam. That is the objective in this tournament – nothing less.

“We are preparing for this tournament as we did the World Cup, which was another tournament we set out to win. We want to be the best, and we set high goals to bring the best out of us.”

It is a testament to the year Wales have had and the rugby that coach Gatland has them playing that they head to Twickenham as clear 4/6 favourites to win the match, and you can get 8/11 on them completing the Triple Crown, which victory over England would ensure.

Patriotic punters can back the Three Lions at 6/5 to triumph over Wales, and they can also take advantage of 11/4 odds on England to claim the Triple Crown, whilst it is 3/1 that no-one receives the award.

However, backing Wales to achieve glory in their pursuit of a Triple Crown looks like the way to go, especially considering the returns of Alun Wyn Jones and Richard Hibbard, recalled by Gatland, will bolster an already highly-competitive squad who should also have captain Sam Warburton available for their next match and beyond.
