Two outsiders to lay down gauntlet to Woods at Pebble Beach

All eyes will be on Tiger Woods at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and although he looks to stand a strong chance of victory, it may pay to take a risk on some other contenders further down the golf betting.

The tournament is the last of the multi-course events in the main PGA Tour season, with none of the 156 scheduled players missing the cut until the end of the third round.

This is so each are not disadvantaged and get to play Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula, with the final round returning to the venue that hosted the 2010 US Open.

Woods is the 4/1 favourite in the golf odds to triumph and will certainly go close if repeating his performance when finishing third in Abu Dhabi in his only appearance of 2012 to date.

Although not playing in the Pro-Am since 2002, Woods is a former winner of the event.

However, his price does look a little skinny and there is plenty to like about the way Trevor Immelman is playing of late to think he has strong credentials at 66/1.

Having started the season badly by comprehensively missing the cut in the Humana Challenge, Immelman has shot under-par in his last nine golf rounds and would have taken confidence from finishing 12th in the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The other longshot who should not be disregarded is DJ Trahan, who can also be backed at 66/1.

Trahan has a decent record in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am through finishing sixth and tenth respectably in 2009 and 2010 and also was fourth last week on his latest start in the Phoenix Open.

Also in Trahan’s favour is that the event has been largely dominated by US players in recent years.
