Tottenham are enjoying mass acclaim for the breathtaking style in which they are playing their football this year, and it now looks as though the high praise has reached the French shores, with Lille winger Eden Hazard reportedly keen on joining the surprise title challengers.

Hazard is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football, and has had scouts from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal flocking to see him after a series of stellar performances saw him named Ligue 1 Player of the Year last season.

He was a key component in Lille’s march to a first French title in over 50 years, and now looks certain to move to a bigger European club after his superlative displays have led to more goals and assists this campaign.

The 21-year-old, who can operate on either flank or centrally, has already outlined a preference to join an English club, and while it was initially thought that Arsenal and Chelsea were the main rivals for his signature, Tottenham now look favourites to do a deal.

“I have not signed anything at Tottenham. Maybe I will play there next season. It is a nice club with a lot of good players and absolutely a top coach,” Hazard recently said on Belgian TV.

“The transfer is still pending. I have not signed anything yet, but I hope it will happen in the near future.”

Lille are resigned to losing their prize asset, and as such have allowed the player to partake in preliminary contract discussions with other clubs, subject to them receiving a fee in the region of £30m when the deal eventually does go through.

It now appears that Spurs, looking like certainties for Champions League qualification, are very much set to further bolster their young and exciting squad with the arrival of the man dubbed ‘the new Ronaldo’.
