Stuart Lancaster favourite to take permanent charge of England
Published:STUART LANCASTER’S odds of becoming permanent manager of England have been cut according to Ladbrokes.
The news that the interim boss will be interviewed by RFU chiefs before the end of the Six Nations has attracted money from punters, making the bookies trim his odds to 11/10. Lancaster is the joint favourite with Nick Mallett (11/10) to become Martin Johnson’s predecessor.
With an announcement imminent the firm are confident it’s a two-horse race between Lancaster and Mallett. John Kirwan earns a 10/1 quote with Eddie O’Sullivan (20/1) and Tony Booth (25/1) among the outsiders.
The loss to Wales has pushed England out to 40/1 to win the Six Nations with Warren Gatland’s side odds-on (4/9) to lift the title with France the second favourites chalked up at 2/1.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Punters are taking it as a good sign that Lancaster’s being interviewed before the tournament’s finished. Although they lost, England played well against Wales and it looks like this could be the start of a new era for English rugby.”
