Siena v Roma: Game-raising hosts to halt Giallorossi progress

Roma are 6/5 to continue their climb up the Serie A table in Tuscany on Monday night against Siena, but their hosts are one of those teams who are far better than their lowly league position suggests…

Match odds

There is evidently no occasion too daunting for Serie A relegation battlers Siena, who already in 2012 have thrashed Lazio 4-0, held unbeaten leaders Juventus in Turin and beaten Napoli in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.

So having taken a point off of Roma in the Italian capital back in September, they won’t be spooked by the Giallorossi’s impressive recent form, and appear well worth considering to claim all three points against them this time at 9/4.

Luis Enrique’s side were rightly showered with praise last weekend for a remarkable 4-0 schooling of Inter, however a lack of consistency has been an issue for them all season, even though they are showing signs of gradually getting there.

That result at the Stadio Olimpico was followed by failure to overcome faltering Catania in their resumed tie in midweek, leaving them seven points shy of the Champions League pace currently being set by overachieving neighbours Lazio.

Siena meanwhile have lost just two of their last eight games in all competitions, not bad going for a club directly above the drop zone, and have suffered only two defeats in ten at home, winning five in that period.

Other markets

Roma have absolutely no trouble finding the net, a situation that will only be enhanced by the return of top scorer Pablo Osvaldo – 5/1 to break the deadlock – and have struck 20 times in their eight league matches.

Instead, their problems come at the back and are best exemplified by the statistic that they have conceded eight goals in their last three away encounters, shipping two or more in six of their last ten.

Therefore, over 2.5 goals at 11/10, both teams to score at 5/6 and both sides to score with Siena winning at 11/2 all look like appetising options, as does 2-1 Siena at 10/1.
