Man Utd to benefit as Napoli trio in Premier League shop window
Chelsea will be mindful of the strength of their hosts’ frontline when travelling to Naples tonight, hoping to quell an attacking Napoli trio who have scored 35 goals between them so far this season.
In Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani, the Italian club have some of the hottest attacking talent in world football, and despite each player being integral to Napoli’s high tempo play, the owner of the club appears to have them in the shop window.
Aurelio Di Laurentiis, who took over Napoli as a bankrupt Serie C side, said: “If they have the money to pay, I am waiting for the offers. There is never a real price. The price is what the clubs need and what is the hot moment of negotiation.
“If someone wants to make an offer, they can make an offer. We can laugh off their offer if we are not satisfied or we can say: ‘Let’s sit down and discuss this’.
“In life, there is always a price for everything. It is just a question of the right moment and the right people.”
With Di Laurentiis’s comments certifying that he would welcome bids for his star trio’s services, Manchester United, Manchester City and tonight’s opponents Chelsea have joined a lengthy list of potential European suitors for the forwards.
Cavani would likely command the highest transfer fee, given that he already has four Champions League goals to his name this term, along with fifteen Serie A strikes, and his value is likely to have doubled from last summer when Chelsea initially expressed an interest in the Uruguayan.
Slovakian playmaker Hamsik meanwhile, most comfortable in an advanced midfield role, could suit the needs of Sir Alex Ferguson perfectly, while Roberto Mancini would love to unite Ezequiel Lavezzi with Argentinian international teammate Sergio Aguero at Eastlands.
They won’t come cheap, but the widely coveted group appear primed for a Premier League switch this summer.
