Liverpool to emerge victorious in Wembley Carling Cup goalfest

Liverpool’s 6-1 mauling of Championship side Brighton on Sunday sent a message to Cardiff ahead of their Carling Cup final clash at the weekend, which the Reds are priced 4/11 to win.

They were helped along by shambolic defending from Gus Poyet’s side in that FA Cup win, and Malky Mackay’s men will not be so generous, but Liverpool certainly have the credentials to see off their opposition at Wembley, and claim their first silverware in six years.

It is 8/1 about a Cardiff victory, though it looks as though their Wembley woes are more likely to continue, with the Bluebirds expected to follow up defeat in the 2008 FA Cup final and 2010 play-off final by making it a treble here.

However, they can give Liverpool a scare with the attacking threats they pose, and both teams can be expected to score in the match with an entertaining final in prospect.

Odds of 11/4 for Liverpool to win with both teams to score are highly appealing.

You can get a big 6/5 on both teams scoring in the match, a bet which looks even more appealing considering that both teams have found the net in seven of Liverpool’s nine cup matches this season.

Kenny Dalglish’s men have also scored at least two goals in each of their cup games so far this campaign, and can be backed at 4/7 to score more than 1.5 goals here, while some punters may take an interest in the very generous 7/4 for the Merseyside club to register more than 2.5 goals at Wembley.

We have seen each of the past two Carling Cup finals end in 2-1 results, and Liverpool can be backed to win by that same scoreline here at 7/1, but the superiority in the Premier League outfit’s ranks make the 9/1 odds for a 3-1 Reds win appear more tempting.
