Gareth Bale to Barcelona rumours keep gathering pace

Tottenham Hotspur face a fight to keep Gareth Bale out of the clutches of Barcelona this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Barcelona scouts have been to watch the Welshman seven times this season and have been impressed with what they’ve seen.

Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has allegedly been talking with Bale’s representatives in the hope of taking the player to the Nou Camp in the summer.

The Daily Mirror reckons Barca would be willing to pay £40million for the player who Spurs signed from Southampton for £7million in 2007.

However, Spurs would undoubtedly be looking for more for the 22-year-old, with Harry Redknapp repeatedly saying he is not for sale.

He has hit ten goals for the north London club already this season and will be hard to replace, which is why Barca are also thought to be prepared to offer a player as well as cash.

A Spurs Premier League win would make it harder for Bale to leave but, with Redknapp’s men out at 14/1 to win the league following their last-gasp defeat at Manchester City a fortnight ago, that may be beyond them.

Meanwhile, Santos midfielder Ganso – reportedly a target for Spurs – has reiterated his desire to stay with the South American side.

Ganso said: “I am calm here and I continue to work. I will say again that I am very happy playing for Santos.

“I hope that this soap opera about renewal will end soon, I want to stay here.”
