Chelsea striker keen to seal summer switch across London

Daniel Sturridge is believed to be considering his future at Chelsea, as concerns over Andre Villas-Boas’ management and the club’s poor league form continues to grow.

Chelsea have won just two of their past ten Premier League matches, and after slipping to fifth place in the league, there is now no guarantee that the Blues will be competing in the Champions League next season.

In the aftermath of their shoddy league form, Sturridge, keen to test himself at the highest level, has now reportedly become disillusioned with life at Stamford Bridge and is said to be considering his options.

The Blues are likely to prioritise Champions League progression from now on, but with a tough Napoli tie standing between them and a spot in the quarter-final, advancement will be far from easy, yet Sturridge is determined to play in Europe’s elite competition again next season.

Another gripe of the 22-year-old forward is that he is being consistently employed in a right-wing berth, despite making clear his desperation to play in the central attacking role that comes naturally to him.

Villas-Boas instead insists on persisting with Fernando Torres, this in spite of the fact that Sturridge has outscored the Spaniard ten goals to four from out wide.

News of his potential availability is sure to spark interest from a host of clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona two of them, but with the player reportedly settled in London, rivals Arsenal and Tottenham would appear to be leading the chase for the player’s signature.

He has only one year to run on his contract from this summer, and so any move would not necessitate the astronomical fee that has been attributed to young English players recently, though he would still command well over £10m.

Much may depend on the final league standings come May, but for now Sturridge seems to be far from happy with life at Stamford Bridge.
