Capello just 5/1 to quit England before Euro 2012 after FA decision
Published:Fabio Capello’s discontent at the removal of John Terry as his captain without his consultation is no secret whatsoever.
After making comments that he “absolutely did not agree with the decision” to withdraw the armband from Terry, pending a legal investigation over claims of racial abuse towards QPR’s Anton Ferdinand, there have been suggestions that Capello has in fact breached his contract by speaking in such a manner publicly.
It would seem that in any other walk of life, a business executive would communicate with a manager before making such a big decision, and you would likely see the manager quit under such circumstances in any employment.
Take into account that FA executive director David Davies has outlined that the FA would take Capello’s comments “very seriously,” along with the fact that the Italian is clearly upset at being undermined in such a way, and it looks a very plausible scenario that England may have a new manager by the time Euro 2012 kicks off.
It is 5/1 that Capello is not in charge for the first game of Euro 2012.
Harry Redknapp is 2/1 favourite to take the reins, though much could depend on the outcome of his court case for tax evasion, which is currently ongoing.
It is believed that the FA’s preference is for an Englishman to take charge this time around, and amongst the other main contenders the leading candidates would appear to be Roy Hodgson at 6/1, and Newcastle’s Alan Pardew at 8/1.
Hodgson has previously clarified that he would only be interested in the post should he be welcomed into it and embraced by the public, following the sour experience he encountered during his last high-profile job at Liverpool.
Whilst Pardew may initially seem a far-fetched shout for the mantle, few could argue with his record for delivering success, and the terrific job he has done at St. James’s Park this season in particular will not have gone unnoticed by the FA boardroom.
