Wozniacki can add to Clijsters pain at the Australian Open
Published:Caroline Wozniacki faces Kim Clijsters in the quarter finals of the Australian Open this Tuesday morning still searching for a maiden Grand Slam title.
Despite her position as World No.1, the Dane has come under increasing criticism for her lack of success in the four Grand Slam events.
That all looks set to change in the next few days though, with Wozniacki producing some of the best tennis of her career in Melbourne – including her 6-0 7-5 demolition of Jelena Jankovic in the last round.
She made just 15 unforced errors in that match and is in the perfect position to get revenge on Clijsters following her victory in the final of the 2009 US Open.
Wozniacki is currently the 8/11 favourite to make it to the semis but remains weary of her opponent who has won both of their previous encounters.
She said: “I know it’s her last Australian Open, so I’m sure she will give everything. I thought she was out. But she showed her fighter heart.”
Clijsters – who is out to defend her 2011 title – has been hampered by an ankle injury and was forced to fight back from a set and four match points down against Li Na in the last round and should not be discounted.
She is currently 11/10 to see off Wozniacki but the Dane will be incredibly hard to beat – especially as she has yet to drop a set so far in the tournament.
Backing Wozniacki to win in straight sets at 2/1 looks well worth consideration.
