Taarabt pledges future to QPR as Onuoha deal stalls
Published:Queens Park Rangers forward Adel Taarabt has admitted he was ready to leave the Premier League strugglers – until Mark Hughes was installed as the Hoops’ new boss.
The Moroccan – who is currently representing his country at the African Nations Cup – has been a source of almost constant rumours since his side were promoted to the English top tier back in May.
Big spending French side Paris St German were thought to be interested and Taarabt looked set to be on his way this January.
However, the arrival of Hughes seems to have put an end to the speculation and the forward – who bagged 19 goals in the Championship last season – is poised to stay and help the Hoops in their survival battle.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I think we needed that. I had good years with Neil Warnock but we were in a bad position.
“I think if Mark Hughes was not coming in maybe I was leaving in January.
“I spoke with the chairman and the situation now has changed. They want to keep me and we’re going to have a discussion when we come back.”
Although Taarabt has hardly set the Premier League alight – he’s yet to find the net in the English top tier – the news will be a welcome boost to Hughes and the new regime after taking over from the popular Warnock.
The good news appears to stop there though, with the Metro reporting that Nedum Onuoha – who was expected to sign for the west London side this week – is now attracting interest from Everton.
While QPR could potentially offer a larger wage packet than the Toffees, the Metro reckons a move to a stable Premier League club near his current home could prove tempting.
The Hoops have drifted to 7/4 to be relegated from the Premier League following their weekend win against Wigan and, with plenty of money to be spent, those odds look set to get even longer in the coming weeks.
