Stoke v West Brom: Another miserable Brit trip for the Baggies

Published:

West Brom have the best away Premier League points average outside of the top seven this season, however it is difficult to see them boosting that figure when they visit Stoke…

Match odds

Without much fanfare, Stoke have been piecing together results that have secured their biggest ever Premier League points haul at this stage of a campaign, giving them a great chance of achieving their first top-half finish.

The Potters have lost only one of their last ten domestic fixtures, that reverse occurring away to leaders Manchester City, and they have been beaten just twice at home, so 5/6 looks a generous price on them getting the better of West Brom.

Roy Hodgson’s side have suffered three successive league defeats and though they have pulled out a number of impressive victories on their travels, their record against Stoke is abysmal.

The Baggies have won none of their last ten clashes with Tony Pulis’ men and they have finished a whopping eight of those encounters completely empty-handed. It is 12/5 that they break that run with a draw, and 10/3 that they triumph.

Other markets

Four of the last five collisions between the clubs have produced under 2.5 goals or fewer and one of the major reasons behind that pattern is that West Brom have only managed to find the net in one of those games.

Those trends indicate that under 2.5 goals at 4/5, the Stoke clean sheet at 6/4 and the hosts to win to nil at 2/1 are all bets worth pursuing.

Also of interest is the fact that four of their five Premier League meetings, including each of the last three and the previous two at the Britannia Stadium, have been goalless at the interval, Stoke taking charge in the second half on three of those occasions.

It is 13/8 that the match is still goalless after 45 minutes, and 7/2 in the half-time/full-time market that the Potters prevail after the break having been held in the first half.
