QPR punching above their weight if they can lure two targets

A poor defensive record is one reason why QPR find themselves on the brink of the relegation places, but a new goalkeeper and defender may arrive before the end of the transfer window to help their survival bid.

QPR have managed just two points from their last eight Premier League games and have fallen to 17th in the Premier League standings as a result.

This is the worst form in the top flight in this period and as a result they have shortened to 7/4 in the Premier League odds to make an immediate return to the Championship.

Part of their problem has been in defence, with only four teams conceding more than QPR’s 35 in their opening 20 games of the campaign.

They do have defenders with Premier League experience, but neither Anton Ferdinand nor Danny Gabbidon look the most natural of leaders.

Owner Tony Fernandes spent a decent sum in the summer to bring the likes of Ferdinand and Gabbidon to Loftus Road and is expected to do so again if required to ensure their Premier League status.

With Alex placed on the transfer list by Chelsea and settled in London, he could prove a snip at just £2m given his Champions League experience.

Alex is reportedly keen to see what QPR are offering and at 29, he could prove a big asset for a few seasons to come.

With Paddy Kenny struggling with injury of late, a new goalkeeper could be of use and with Scottish giants Rangers not in the best financial shape, Allan McGregor could be enticed to London.

McGregor would cost QPR somewhere in the region of £7m, but Rangers may be interested in a lesser cash sum plus players, which would also suit Neil Warnock if it meant clearing out some of his fringe stars.
