Packers and Patriots still the teams to back in Super Bowl betting
Published:Green Bay Packers have long been the favourites for the Super Bowl – and the past few weeks have done little to dent anyone’s faith.
The Packers have been in convincing form throughout the 2011 regular season and secured progression and homefield advantage thanks to a run that saw them win 15 from 16 games.
Mike McCarthy’s men – who are 13/8 to retain their Super Bowl crown – now play the winners of the Wild Card play-off between Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants.
The Giants were winners of their division and won their last two games but the Falcons – who won ten of their regular season games – won’t roll over for the east coast side.
It promises to be a tight game and the Giants are priced at 1/1 to win the clash with a handicap of three points, while the Falcons are 5/6 to come out on top with a three point head start.
Meanwhile, New England Patriots are second in the Super Bowl betting at 7/2 and face an AFC divisional play-off against the winner of the clash between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans.
This also has all the makings of an extremely tight encounter although the Texans are favourites for the game at 10/17.
However, if running backs Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott can produce the kind of form they have shown in the regular season, then the Bengals may be worth backing with a three point head start at 10/11.
Whoever emerges victories from the Wild Card Weekend will face a tough test in the divisional play-offs though, and it’s hard to see any of the four sides getting past the might of the Packers or Patriots.
