Liverpool v Man City: Reds poised to make Carling Cup final

Published:

The second Carling Cup semi-final takes place at Anfield this Wednesday evening with Liverpool the favourites to see off Manchester City and make it to their first League Cup final since their 2005 defeat to Chelsea.

The Reds are currently 2/5 to qualify following their 1-0 victory in the first-leg, with City out at 7/4.

However, as City showed with their last gasp victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend – they should never be ruled out…

Match odds

Liverpool are favourites to win this clash at 8/5 and can be confident of creating at least a few chances with the shaky Stefan Savic expected to deputise once again for the suspended Vincent Kompany.

While the murmurs of discontent are starting to get a little louder at Anfield there can be no denying that the Reds still have an incredibly solid home record.

This is their first home Carling Cup game this term (they’ve won all of their previous five away games in the competition) and since Kenny Dalglish took charge last year, they’ve lost just one of their 23 home games.

City haven’t won at Anfield since 2003 and are 17/10 to get the victory they need to at least force extra-time this time out.

Meanwhile, backing the game to finish level – as it has in three of the last four encounters between the teams at Liverpool – looks incredibly tempting at 9/4.

Goal markets

City have scored just five goals in their previous seven away games and face a Liverpool side who have scored more than one goal in a game in just two of their previous nine matches at Anfield.

Back this game to finish with under 2.5 goals scored at 4/6.

Finally, Steven Gerrard proved the difference between the sides in the first leg and the Liverpool skipper – who takes their penalties – is 9/4 to score at any time.
