Hartley favourite to be England captain for Six Nations

Published:

DYLAN HARTLEY is the favourite to be the next England captain according to Ladbrokes.

As Stuart Lancaster looks towards new leadership groups it’s 6/4 that Hartley captains the side against Scotland on February 4. Stalwarts Chris Robshaw (2/1), Tom Wood (11/4) and Tom Croft (8/1) also earn quotes to replace Lewis Moody.

After naming nine uncapped players Ben Morgan is the favourite to start at 1/2 with Charlie Sharples a 4/6 shot and Saints’ Phil Dowson at 2/1. The bookies also make debutant Joe Marler 9/1 to start at Murrayfield without his famous mohican.

Charlie Hodgson (1/4) is odds-on to claim the number 10 shirt in the absence of the injured Toby Flood and Saracens’ Owen Farrell is an 11/4 outsider for a starting role.

Farrell is also 4/1 to score all of England’s points against Scotland and it’s 5/2 he converts all his shots at goal.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It looks like it’s the year for debutants. Lancaster has freshened the side up and the odds suggest uncapped players will steal the headlines for the right reasons this time round.”
