Djokovic can bag French Open after epic Australian Open win

It was undoubtedly one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all time – but Novak Djokovic’s incredible Australian Open victory over Rafael Nadal looks like being only the start of a fantastic season.

The Serb won the first Grand Slam of the year in five sets and – after he’s recovered from the amazing physical and mental pressures of the past few days – he will be looking ahead to the French Open.

The clay court event certainly favours ‘King of Clay’ Nadal but, after another win over the Spaniard – his seventh straight win over the World No.2 – backing Djokovic for a maiden title looks well worth considering.

He has made the semis on three occasions at Roland Garros and last year succumbed to Roger Federer in the last four.

Federer continues to look a little past his best though and it’s hard to see the Swiss overcoming Djokovic this season.

Djokovic is currently 7/4 to win in Paris and, after looking perhaps even better than he did last season in Melbourne, he could be well worth backing.

Meanwhile, Nadal is the 1/1 favourite for the title having won the championship on six separate occasions.

Further down in the betting, Federer is 10/1, while Australian Open semi-finalist Andy Murray is out at 14/1 to claim his maiden major on the clay at Paris.

Djokovic remains the most tempting proposition though and – if can bag a win in the French – there is every chance of him claiming all four Grand Slam titles in 2012.
