Demba Ba transfer rumours gather pace after Redknapp comments

Harry Redknapp is never shy about coming forward during a transfer window and things are no different this January.

The Spurs boss has been speaking about Newcastle striker Demba Ba – and his comments are sure to irk the Magpies and their fans.

Redknapp claims the striker – who has scored 15 Premier League goals this season – has a release clause in his contract for the relatively paltry sum of £5million.

The Daily Mirror reckon that news could be enough to spark a bidding war between the likes of Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton and QPR.

It’s hard to see him going to any of the last three, although Liverpool haven’t exactly been worried about splashing the cash recently and, with Andy Carroll continuing to misfire and Luis Suarez suspended for the foreseeable future, a move to Merseyside would appear to make sense.

However, Newcastle are just one point behind the Reds at the moment and it’s hard to see him leaving before the summer – even if Spurs launch a bid for him.

Newcastle are currently 40/1 to finish in the top four and Ba is 11/1 to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer.

Meanwhile, Spurs are also thought to be after Aston Villa defender James Collins.

Collins – who, unbelievably, is still only 28-years-old – is rumoured to be available for something around the £3million mark.

However, Redknapp is thought to prefer Blackburn Rovers centre-half Chris Samba and indicated over the weekend that signing him was “not an impossibility.”

Spurs are currently a tiny 2/9 to finish in the top four and should comfortably achieve that feat.

However, if Spurs are able to land their targets this January then backing them to win the Premier League at 9/1 should not be dismissed out of hand.
