Chris Robshaw set to be named England captain for Six Nations
Published:England interim coach Stuart Lancaster’s attempts to break from the past look set to take another big stride this week when he names his new captain for their Six Nations campaign.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Lancaster will name Harlequins flanker Chris Robshaw as skipper ahead of their opening game of the tournament against Scotland.
Robshaw has continued to be impressive for the Quins this season and – despite having just one cap for England – is favourite to lead England out at Murrayfield.
Northampton’s hooker Dylan Hartley and Leicester’s Tom Croft are also in the running but Robshaw’s form for Harlequins and his growing reputation make the 25-year-old an ideal long-term candidate.
And it’s a role Robshaw would love to take on.
Speaking to the Guardian, Robshaw said: “I feel I have definitely evolved and grown with experience.
“You learn how to speak to the referee and to certain players. These things don’t happen overnight but I feel I have grown into the role.
“I would relish the chance to captain the side at Murrayfield.”
It’s not all positive news for England though with Toby Flood, Courtney Lawes, Manu Tuilagi and Tom Wood all suffering with injuries ahead of the Scotland clash.
However, Lancaster has made huge strides since taking over as England boss and his men head into the game in Scotland as the narrow 4/6 favourites.
They defeated the Scots in the World Cup back in the autumn but it was an incredibly close 16-12 victory and Lancaster will be hoping for a more convincing performance this time out.
Meanwhile, Scotland are 5/4 to bag the win and 10/11 to do it with a two-point head start.
