Arsenal vs Leeds: hosts to show class with FA Cup victory

Published:

Thierry Henry may be getting all the headlines heading into this clash but there is no escaping the fact that this could be a tricky encounter for the Gunners.

With Robin van Persie so vital for the north London side there is a chance he could be rested for their assault on the Premier League top four and anytime Van Persie is out of the team Arsenal look far less threatening.

With Leeds being in solid Championship form this season, this could be a tight game…

Match odds

Arsenal met Leeds in the FA Cup last season and that time United were able to take the Gunners to a replay after picking up a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

That was a very different Arsenal team though and this season Arsene Wenger’s men look far more resilient than they have for many a season.

Arsenal are the big favourites for this clash at 2/7 and it’s hard to see them slipping up against a team who have won just one of their previous five games and none of their last three on the road.

Goal markets

Henry is the man who the romantics will be hoping can find the net and he is currently priced at 4/1 to open the scoring.

However, a better bet would be to back him scoring the last goal at 4/1 with the New York Red Bulls player looking more likely to make an appearance from the bench.

With Leeds scoring in all but two of their 14 games away from Elland Road this season and Arsenal having only the 12th best defence in the Premier League, backing both teams to score – as happened in their two encounters last season – at 8/11 looks well worth consideration.
