African Nations Cup: Zambia can guarantee progress with Libya win

Published:

Zambia and Equatorial Guinea head into their second Group A games knowing victories over Libya and Senegal respectively would guarantee them progression to the knockout stages.

However, at least one of the sides looks like having to wait a little longer to make sure of escaping the group…

Libya v Zambia (4pm)

Libya have been enduring a torrid time of things on the football pitch and began their African Nations Cup campaign with a disappointing defeat against Equatorial Guinea thanks to an 87th minute winner from Javier Balboa.

That result means they have now gone seven games without a victory and have scored just once in their previous five matches.

With Zambia overcoming Senegal in their first game of the competition and shipping just two goals in their last four matches, backing Zambia to win at 6/4 looks the bet, while also putting some cash on them to win to nil at 10/3 is also worth consideration.

Equatorial Guinea v Senegal (7pm)

Equatorial Guinea may have won their opening game against a poor Libya side, but that looks like being as good as things get for the West African side this week.

It was their first appearance in the competition and also just their third win in their previous nine games.

They face a Senegal side whose opening defeat against Zambia was only their second in 14 games. However, they have a poor record in the African Nations Cup and they have not won in the competition since 2006 – six games ago.

Everything is set up for this to be a tight and tense game so backing the game to finish level at 5/2 looks very tempting.
