Wigan vs Arsenal: Arsenal to score for fun at the DW Stadium

Published:

Arsene Wenger took the chance to rest some of his big guns in the Carling Cup in midweek and this may mean that they win by a margin of three goals in their latest Premier League trip to Wigan.

The likes of Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey have been virtual ever presents for Arsenal of late and Ramsey in particular looked jaded for the recent draw at home to Fulham.

However, the trio should have all benefited greatly from a week off, to not only recharge their batteries but also shake off any minor injuries they may have been carrying.

Goals should prove no problem for Arsenal at the DW Stadium as they have found the target in 15 of their last 16 games on the road and scored 11 in their last four away outings in the Premier League.

Arsenal have also won nine of their last 12 meetings with Wigan in the Premier League and three of their four cup encounters in the same time period.

Therefore, it is unsurprising that Arsenal’s odds are 4/7 to beat Wigan and this looks the logical result.

But Wigan have shown signs of improvement of late, ending a run of nine successive defeats with a two-game unbeaten run.

They will have also taken confidence from winning at Sunderland in their latest game which was their first Premier League victory since August.

Wigan’s odds are 5/1 to beat Arsenal, with the draw available at 11/4.

Despite Wigan’s upturn in form, Arsenal could enjoy a mini goal frenzy and 7/1 could be a big price that they win by exactly three goals.

A 3-0 Arsenal victory or a 4-1 away success are both plausible outcomes and these results can be backed at 11/1 and 25/1 respectively.
