Suarez and Ba look candidates for 20,000th Premier League goal

Only 18 more goals now need to be scored before the 20,000 barrier is breached in the Premier League and looking at the next round of fixtures, Luis Suarez and Demba Ba could both be fancied to add their name to history.

Both of Tuesday’s Premier League games look to have goals in them as Bolton host Blackburn and Norwich travel to Wolves and it would be no surprise if the total tally moves beyond 19,990 after this pair of fixtures.

Therefore, there is every chance that the landmark will be reached in the current batch of games on Wednesday and Liverpool and Newcastle should both be among the goals.

Liverpool have scored exactly twice in seven of their last nine away games in all competitions and this is a record they should be able to maintain away at Wigan.

With Suarez being their key source of goals, he is highly likely to find the target and could be worth considering at 33/1 to score the 20,000th Premier League goal.

Meanwhile, Newcastle may have failed to score in their last two home games, but there is every chance that they will be back among the goals when West Brom visit St James’ Park.

Over 2.5 goals have been netted in nine of the ten Premier League meetings between the pair and Ba at 40/1 could be a tempting bet to set the landmark given his scoring threat for Newcastle.

Never out of the spotlight for long, Mario Balotelli is the favourite to secure the record at 16/1, with Wayne Rooney at 20/1 and Robin Van Persie at 25/1.

With Moritz Volz grabbed the 15,000th Premier League goal, punters wanting to back an outsider could do worse than Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny at 500/1 especially as Aston Villa struggle to defend set pieces.
