Newcastle vs Swansea: visitors will make life hard for the Magpies

Published:

Newcastle host Swansea in the first top-flight meeting between these teams and it comes on the back of a couple of disappointing weeks for Alan Pardew and his side.

They are now without a win in four Premier League games and face a Swansea side who got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Fulham last weekend.

However, that was at the Liberty Stadium where Swansea have been imperious this season – on the road it’s a very different story.

Match odds

Despite boasting the best home defence in the Premier League, Swansea have been pretty dreadful on the road this term.

They have the worst away record in the league and have picked up just two points in their seven games away from the Liberty.

By that reckoning, Newcastle should be an absolute banker at 4/5 to pick up all three points.

However, after a brilliant start, the Magpies are now four Premier League games without a victory and got hammered 4-2 in their last outing against Norwich.

The Swans have picked up a point at Anfield this term so St James’s Park should hold no fear for Brendan Rogers’ men.

Swansea can be backed to pick up a point at 5/2.

Goal markets

Swansea have kept just one clean sheet on their travels this term and have shipped 18 goals in seven games.

That’s an average of over two goals a game and, with all bar one of Newcastle’s previous six games yielding three goals or more, backing over 2.5 goals looks to be well worth a punt at 4/5.

Finally, Demba Ba has hit three goals in his previous three Premier League games and is 7/2 to open the scoring in this game.
