Man Utd vs Wigan: Standard win to nil on cards for hosts

Published:

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that if his side are within touching distance of Manchester City after the festive period then they will be on course to win a 20th league title.

Looking at how United have attacked the league after Christmas in previous seasons, it’s hard to argue with that logic and everything looks like going to plan for United in this clash against Wigan.

They won their last game 5-0 against a forlorn Fulham side and it would take a fantastic performance from Wigan to get anything out of this game.

Match odds

Man Utd have played Wigan 13 times in the previous six years and have won every encounter.

They are a tiny 1/6 to win this game but, even with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and possibly Phil Jones missing for the champions, that looks like the only match outcome bet worth consideration.

Wigan – who have lost just one of their previous six league games – are currently a massive 11/1 to get the win and 5/1 to get their third consecutive draw.

Goal markets

United have hit 16 goals in their previous four games against the Latics and have not conceded a single goal during that period.

With Wigan having the worst attack in the Premier League, backing United to win to nil at 4/6 looks worth a punt, while putting some cash on over 3.5 goals is also worth consideration at 6/5.

After a bit of a barren spell, Wayne Rooney is once again hitting the net with scary regularity and has banged in four in United’s last three games.

The striker is 4/9 to score in consecutive games against Wigan.
