Arsenal vs Wolves: dogged Gunners to grab another victory

| 26.12.2011

Arsenal’s eight-game unbeaten run may have come to an end in their 1-0 defeat against Manchester City last weekend, but their resilient victory over Aston Villa in the week bodes well for this encounter.

They needed an 87th minute Yossi Benayoun goal to see off Villa 2-1 and they head into this postponed clash with Wolves as big favourites against a team who once again look set to spend the season in a relegation dogfight…

Match odds

Arsenal are the 2/9 favourites heading into this game and – based on their record against Wolves – it’s easy to see why.

The Gunners haven’t dropped a point against Wolves in any of their Premier League encounters and haven’t lost against the midlands side since 1979.

Wolves have lost all of their previous six Premier League away games and have not won a single game away from Molineux against any side currently above them in the league this term.

With Arsenal undefeated in seven home games – a run that has included six wins – Wolves will struggle to get anything out of this game.

If you can see an upset though, then Mick McCarthy’s men can be backed at 9/1 to get the win and 9/2 to bag a point.

Goal markets

Wolves have the third worst away defence in the league and have conceded at least two in their previous six games away from Molineux.

With Arsenal averaging over two goals in their last six Premier League games at the Emirates, backing over 2.5 goals looks tempting at 8/15.

Meanwhile, three of the previous five meetings between the teams have seen the Gunners win 2-0 and the same score can be backed at 5/1, while Robin van Persie is 1/3 to score his 35th league goal of the calendar year.
