Andre Ward vs Carl Froch: Froch will aim for knockout in America

Published:

Carl Froch takes on Andre Ward at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City on Saturday night, with the WBA and WBC Super Middleweight titles on the line, along with the Super Six trophy.

Coming as the final of the Super Six tournament, the bout will signify who is ultimately the greatest fighter in the division.

Andre Ward is 1/3 to win the fight outright, and these odds are understandably short considering that the American has won each of his 26 professional fights.

His opponent Froch has lost one out of 29 pro bouts, and he is 5/2 to win by any means in Atlantic City.

The draw is priced at 25/1 but this is difficult to envisage, particularly when taking into consideration the respective records of each competitor.

Froch will be wary of potentially biased judging that could occur whilst fighting on American soil, especially in light of Amir Khan’s recent controversial loss, and he has been very outspoken regarding the underhand tactics of Ward.

Hoping to alert referees to potential misdemeanours, mainly a tendency to use his head excessively, it could be worth backing Froch to triumph by means of KO, TKO or disqualification at 7/1.

Ward is 8/1 to win by the same means, and 4/9 for a points victory should the fight go the distance, with the English fighter 9/2 to score the points win.

It would play into Froch’s hands quite literally for the fight to be in the style of a brawl rather than a tactical boxing match.

His stamina has been a major factor in his success within the ring, and long odds on Froch achieving a late knockout could be snapped up by hopeful punters.

It is 22/1 Froch knocks Ward out in rounds 7-9, and the same price for a round 10-12 knockout.
Alternatively, you could back Froch to win via 12th round knockout, as he did against Jermain Taylor, at a monster 50/1.
