Al Ferof and Tingle Creek the highlights of TV racing

Published:

Punters have been spoilt with some big races on recent weekends and the current one is no exception, led by the Tingle Creek at Sandown.

One of the most exciting novices of the season is also in action at the same course in Al Ferof, while some early Grand National clues may be found at Aintree in the Becher Chase.

13:55 Sandown – Al Ferof @ 4/7

Not the most inspired selection, but Al Ferof is hard to fault since making a seamless transition from hurdles to fences and can hold off For Non Stop and Lancetto who will battle for the places.

14:10 Aintree – West End Rocker @ 14/1

West End Rocker may have been below par of late, but a return to his best form would see him go close and was jumping perfectly over the big Aintree fences in the Grand National this year until being unfortunately brought down.

Alan King’s horses are also showing a return to form of late and Wayne Hutchinson takes the ride, who is the only jockey to ride the horse to victory previously.

14:30 Sandown – Gibb River @ 9/1

Gibb River did little wrong in winning his first three starts before being found out for a bit of speed at the Cheltenham Festival. He should take well to handicap company.

15:05 Sandown – Kauto Stone @ 3/1

Sizing Europe is the one to beat, but had a tough test in Ireland last time that he may not have fully recovered from, while the same applies to Wishfull Thinking after his exploits in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

Paul Nicholls has won the last six runnings of the Tingle Creek and Kauto Stone showed a fine engine last time that suggests he can cope with the drop back in trip to 2m.

15:20 Aintree – Frankie Figg @ 5/1

Frankie Figg seems to either win or fall at Aintree so his selection is a slight risk, but up only 4lb for his win in the same Grand Sefton last year and is now trained by Nicholls.

15:40 Sandown – Major Malarkey @ 7/1

A repeat of Major Malarkey’s run in the Bet365 Gold Cup in April would probably suffice and he should not lack for fitness on his first start of the current season.
