Wigan vs Blackburn: Future could be very bleak for Wigan

Published:

Blackburn have arguably been playing relatively well of late without getting any beneficial results and the tide may be ready to turn ahead of a crunch early-season six pointer at Wigan.

The pair only narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season and find themselves back in similar territory again as they currently occupy the bottom two places of the table after 11 games of the campaign.

It may be too early to make such a comment, but the loser at the JJB Stadium could already in November be staring down the barrel of Championship football.

Blackburn’s odds are 9/5 to beat Wigan and they have been slightly unfortunate in recent weeks in losing to the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.

It is clearly not a good situation when a team is losing games when playing well, but a continuation of their level of performance should be enough to see off a toothless Wigan.

The return of Scott Dann in defence will also be a massive bonus, while Steve Kean will certainly give his all to rally his troops as a defeat to Wigan must end his spell as manager.

Five points from 11 games represents Wigan’s worst start to a Premier League season and the fact that they have lost their last nine games in all competitions does not inspire confidence.

However, this may provide their best chance of ending their winless streak, with Blackburn having triumphed in just two of their last 18 away games.

Wigan’s odds are 6/4 to beat Blackburn, while the draw that effectively helps neither team bridge the gap on the teams above them is available at 23/10.

Yakubu has made a decent start to life at Blackburn and may be the best option in the first goalscorer market at 7/1.
