Tottenham transfer looking increasingly unlikely for Beckham

With the main hope for David Beckham now being securing a spot on the Great Britain team for next summer’s Olympic Games, a big decision awaits on what his next career move will be.

There has been a lot of interest for the services of Beckham, but a return to the Premier League and particularly Tottenham may prove one of the more unlikely outcomes.

Beckham’s current contract in the MLS with LA Galaxy expires next month and one option that is open is that he remains in the US where his family is well settled.

The club have also accepted Beckham’s desire to represent Great Britain in London and agreed to grant him leave to feature in the tournament.

However, the one sticking point is that Beckham wants regular football in the coming months before the Olympics and this is impossible in the MLS with the season having just finished.

Therefore, Beckham may favour a return to Europe where he can play relatively regularly up until May.

Tottenham and QPR lead the Premier League race, but at the age of 36 there are doubts that Beckham can maintain the pace of English football.

The other doubt is that he may be left out fairly often, particularly at Tottenham, and Beckham will not want to be a bench warmer as he looks to build on his fitness.

These reasons may make a move to France the most likely for Beckham.

Paris Saint Germain would have no trouble meeting his financial demands and arguably could offer the best package of all the clubs interested in luring the former England captain on a short-term deal.

Joe Cole is recent proof that English players can have an impact in France and the move should be best for Beckham in terms of getting the regular football he craves.
