Swansea vs Aston Villa: stingy Swans will make life difficult

Published:

Swansea face Aston Villa for the first time in nearly 30 years and head into the game as narrow favourites – but they will face a tough test against Alex McLeish’s men.

Villa have not set many pulses racing this season but they have steadily been picking up points and have lost just three of their opening 12 games in the league.

With Swansea keeping things extremely tight at the Liberty, there looks to be very little to separate these sides…

Match odds

Swansea are the 5/4 favourites and, after some excellent performances at the Liberty this season, it’s easy to see why.

The Swans have lost just one of their opening six games – and that was a narrow 1-0 defeat against Premier League champions Manchester United.

However, Villa head into this game following a comprehensive 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Monday and you suspect that Alex McLeish would be happy to take a draw from their first Premier League trip to Wales.

With Swansea not losing consecutive home league games since defeats against Bournemouth and Yeovil in League One back in 2008, backing this game to finish as a draw at 5/2 could be worth a punt.

Goal markets

Swansea have the best home defence in the Premier League and have shipped just two goals at the Liberty so far this term – and one of those was an own goal from striker Danny Graham.

Villa meanwhile, have yet to win a game in the road this term, drawing four of their six games away from Villa Park.

With two teams smarting from defeats in their last game, backing this tight game to finish with under 2.5 goals scored looks too good to pass up at 5/6.
