Spanish fatigue could see Argentina spring an upset in the Davis Cup

Whilst Spain go into the Davis Cup final as clear favourites on home soil, the gruelling schedules of their squad members could see Juan Martin del Potro and co. prosper in Seville.

Bearing in mind that the games will take place on a hard clay surface, it is no surprise to see a Spain side that features clay specialist Rafael Nadal priced at just 1/6 to win the tournament.

Argentina though, available at 7/2, have an array of fresher talent at their disposal, and will be determined to put right their defeat to Spain in the 2008 final to claim an elusive first Davis Cup triumph.

Hopes of the South American nation could depend on the mindset of David Nalbandian.

Notorious for his inconsistency, Nalbandian was a member of the side that so memorably failed to live up to their favourites tag on Argentinian soil back in 2008, and will be more determined than most to make amends here.

He has won more matches on clay than any other surface in Davis Cup competition.

Although the home side boast Nadal, the Spaniard has been plagued by injury woes recently, and failed to perform to his own great standards consistently throughout 2011.

He may not offer the sort of imperious challenge he once would, and following his recent crash from the ATP Tour Finals at the group stage, that 1/6 price should be looked at cautiously.

Teammate David Ferrer did impress in the ATP World Tour Finals, but his run to the sem-final will have undoubtedly taken its toll on the world number five.

The Argentinian squad, meanwhile, have played far less competitive tennis in recent weeks, and have instead been focusing on intense clay surface practice, training in Barcelona for three weeks prior to the upcoming event.

A fresh and talented squad could overcome an undoubtedly strong, yet weary, Spanish outfit and 7/2 is a big price for the travellers.
