Silva knock jeopardises Man City’s unbeaten Premier League start
David Silva has been the lynchpin of Manchester City’s emphatic opening to the season, but a back injury picked up against Villarreal threatens to ruin their unbeaten start.
QPR are all of a sudden looking great value at 8/1 in the Premier League odds to claim a previously unlikely three points.
Despite all of Roberto Mancini’s chopping and changing, he has almost always found a starting spot for Silva, in the same way Pep Guardiola virtually never hands a rest to Lionel Messi.
Silva’s energy and creation has been pivotal, scoring three goals so far in the Premier League and directly assisting seven others, which is more than any other player in the top flight.
However, he was taken off in the second half in the Champions League victory clutching his back and the early signs were that he was in immediate pain.
The severity of the problem remains unknown, but there is every chance that Mancini will not want to risk his long-term participation and therefore may leave Silva out of the Premier League showdown with QPR, or at least start him on the bench.
Mancini is already without the suspended Vincent Kompany and alongside Yaya Toure, the threesome have provided the backbone to Manchester City so far.
QPR have already beaten Chelsea at home this season and are unbeaten at Loftus Road in the top flight since the opening day of the campaign.
Manchester City have been unfortunate in having to play away in the Premier League on all three occasions after a Champions League night with largely impressive results.
On two of these occasions they beat Blackburn 4-0 and Manchester United 6-1.
However, these trips are quite close to home and the one time they travelled to London, they drew at Fulham.
It is 4/1 that Manchester City drop some rare Premier League points by also drawing at QPR.
