Normal service can be resumed as Federer faces Tsonga in Paris
Published:Roger Federer has won pretty much every title worth winning in tennis – and now he looks set to add the Paris Masters to his impressive CV.
This is the first time Federer has reached the final in Paris and he did so with an impressive 6-4 6-3 victory over Andy Murray’s conqueror, Tomas Berdych.
The Swiss is the 3/10 favourite heading into this match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and it’s hard to see beyond a victory for the 16-time Grand Slam champion.
The most famous meeting between these two players saw Tsonga beat Federer in an epic five set encounter at the quarter finals of the 2011 Wimbledon championships.
However, they have met twice since then, with Tsonga winning one and Federer the previous encounter on the hard courts at the US Open.
Tsonga – who won the event in 2008 – also made extremely hard work of his Paris Masters semi final against John Isner.
The Frenchman needed to save three match points and didn’t break Isner’s serve once as he scraped through, 3-6 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-3).
Meanwhile, Federer was fantastic against Berdych and the Frenchman believes Federer is back to his best after a disappointing season.
He said: “We can count the unforced errors that he did on the fingers of one hand, which is incredible, he’s playing really well.
“He started every set really great and just didn’t give me any chance at all.”
If he continues his steady improvements of the past few weeks, backing the former World No.1 to win in straight sets looks temping at 5/6 – especially after his convincing straight sets victory over Tsonga at the US Open.
