Lyon can stand up to big Real Madrid test in Champions League

Published:

In what may appear a bizarre run of fixtures, this will be the tenth time the Spanish and French giants have clashed in the past six years.

Real Madrid currently top La Liga, besting even Barcelona up to this point, but it is surprising to see that 5/1 shots Lyon have won more of these meetings than the Spanish side.

The draw has been the most commonplace result though, occurring four times, and at 14/5, it could be wise to back this outcome again.

Lyon at 33/25 in the double chance market could also be a shrewd bet with this in mind.

Real Madrid are 4/7 to triumph in the Champions League odds and did win the most recent meeting 4-0 at the Bernabeu, and should never be taken lightly as the most successful side in the history of the Champions League.

Ajax take on Dinamo Zagreb in the other Group D encounter, meanwhile, and should be backed at 4/9 to be victorious.

The away side are priced at 6/1 as they look to claim their maiden European points, and a draw looks the best the Croatians can hope for, at 10/3.

2010 champions Inter Milan are in Group B action also, taking on French champions Lille.

Inter look big at 5/6 at the San Siro, as they look to build on back-to-back Champions League victories.

With the likes of Eden Hazard though, Lille are dangerous and could spring a surprise at 10/3, or at least claim a point at 12/5.

CSKA Moscow travel to Turkey to meet Trabzonspor in the group’s other game, a vital match with both sides sitting on four points.

Both sides are priced at 13/8, with CSKA’s added quality cancelling out Trabzonspor’s home advantage, and the 23/10 for the draw could be the best bet here.
