Ladbrokes offers best price on Taylor to win World Championships

Phil Taylor’s assault on the Ladbrokes World Darts Championships begins in just a few weeks – and Ladbrokes are offering the best price available on ‘The Power’ winning another title.

The draw for the first round took place on Tuesday and Taylor should have no problems negotiating an opening tie against the winner of a preliminary match between Haruki Muramatsu and Dennis Nilsson.

However, you don’t win 15 World Championships by being complacent and Taylor is ready for a tough tournament.

Speaking to the Racing Post, Taylor said: “It’s an exciting draw but it also poses a challenge because you don’t know which of the players you will play.

“Both of them are pretty unknown quantities but they have done really well to qualify and it will be the biggest night of their lives.

“I’ve got to make sure I’m ready and get through the first round. It’s a huge goal to win back this title and I’ll be ready!”

Taylor has immediately been installed as the 5/4 favourite with Ladbrokes for the competition and it’s hard to look too far beyond the Stoke man – especially at such tempting odds.

However, as we saw last year, Taylor is definitely beatable.

Defending champion Adrian Lewis is 7/1 second favourite, while last year’s losing finalist Gary Anderson is out at 8/1.

Welshman Mark Webster – who defeated Taylor at the quarter-final stage last year – is a pretty big 25/1 and opens up against compatriot and 1995 BDO champion, Richie Burnett, who is a massive 200/1 to win the tournament.

Burnett has had something of a renaissance in the past year though and, while the title may be beyond him, backing him to cause an upset in the first round could lead to a very decent payout.
