Chelsea and Tottenham set to battle for England defender

Bolton defender Gary Cahill looks set to be the subject of a January bidding war between London sides Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bolton defender has long been a target for Spurs, with Harry Redknapp allegedly putting in a bid of around £13million for the England defender in the summer.

However, Bolton turned the offer down – despite Cahill only having one year remaining on his contract – but now look set to lose the centre half in January following an extremely disappointing start for the Trotters.

Owen Coyle’s men are currently mired in the relegation zone thanks to winning just three of their opening 12 Premier League games this term.

The Bolton hierarchy will no doubt be hoping a bidding war breaks out between the London sides, with Redknapp determined to add some depth to his back line and Andre Villas-Boas looking to get a long-term replacement for John Terry.

Either way, it looks as though Bolton will be forced to sell Cahill to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer, meaning a punt on Wanderers to be relegated at 15/8 could be well worth considering.

Meanwhile, the Blues are also thought to have been offered former World Player of the Year, Kaka, by Real Madrid.

The Brazilian has struggled to make an impact under Jose Mourinho and the Sun reports he is being hawked to the Blues for around £30million.

Chelsea are currently out at a massive 14/1 to win the Premier League following their dismal couple of weeks and they certainly need an injection of something if they are to catch up with the Manchester sides.

Whether Cahill or Kaka are what they need remains to be seen…
