Bolton vs Stoke: little to separate the Trotters and Potters

Published:

Bolton have endured a miserable start to their Premier League season and what could previously be swept aside as a ‘blip’ is now becoming something altogether more serious.

With just two wins all season, Bolton need to start picking up points soon to avoid being mired in a relegation battle.

Stoke are the latest visitors looking to bag all three points at the Reebok.

After three consecutive domestic defeats, Stoke got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday and can be backed at 2/1 to get another victory against Bolton.

However, Stoke have yet to pick up a point in a game immediately following a Europa League group game, losing to Sunderland, Manchester United and Swansea City already this season.

With the Trotters winning two and drawing one of the previous four Premier League games against Stoke, they look tempting at 11/8.

Bolton remain firmly in the relegation zone though and haven’t picked up a single point at the Reebok this season.

Even though Bolton haven’t been involved in a draw since a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in February, backing a fatigued Stoke and an under-pressure Bolton to play out a draw is worth considering at 23/10.

The last time these sides met was in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley where Stoke smashed Bolton 5-0.

Bolton not only have the worse defence in the Premier League, but they have conceded more goals per game than any other side in the whole of the football league.

With Stoke keeping just two clean sheets in their previous 15 Premier League away games, backing over 2.5 goals looks pretty decent at 5/6.
