Anticipate goals in the first half as Everton travel to Newcastle

Based on current form, Newcastle’s odds look particularly appealing at 5/4 to win at home to Everton, but recent history suggests that an even better bet exists for the Premier League clash at St James’ Park.

Looking back over the last four meetings between the pair in the Premier League, goals have certainly been far more prevalent in the opening 45 minutes compared to the second half.

In fact, seven of the eight goals scored in these meetings have arrived in the first period.

Therefore, 2/1 seems a big price in the Premier League odds that it is the first half that produces the most goals this season, especially compared to the 10/11 that the net is found more times after the break.

Meanwhile, although Newcastle are recognised for having one of the meanest defences in the Premier League this season, goals can also be expected at St James’ Park.

Three of Everton’s last four games have witnessed at least three goals scored, while Demba Ba has been banging them in for fun at Newcastle of late, with eight goals in his last five Premier League appearances.

It is 10/11 that over 2.5 goals are scored and this again looks the better value in this market, given that it is 4/5 that a maximum of two goals are scored.

This is especially true as six of Newcastle’s latest seven fixtures in all competitions have seen the target found on at least three occasions, including two 4-3 Carling Cup thrillers.

Furthermore, only title challengers Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have managed to prevent Everton scoring since the opening day of the season.
