Andre Villas-Boas sack race odds slashed following Leverkusen loss

Andre Villas-Boas is 20/1 with Ladbrokes to be out of a job by midnight on Sunday.

The under fire boss is now just 4/1 in the sack race having been as big as 33/1 before their loss to Liverpool and 16/1 before kick off on Wednesday. He can also be backed at 5/6 to be out of a job by the end of the season (from 2/1).

A squad clear out now looks more likely in January with a host of players’ odds slashed to leave the club in the next transfer window. Nicholas Anelka is the shortest of the bunch a 1/2 and it’s 5/4 Drogba leaves the club then. Kalou (4/7), Malouda (5/6) and Alex (5/6) are all also odds-on to move on to pastures new when the window re-opens.

Despite events in Germany, Chelsea are still 4/11 to progress to the next round of the tournament and are 16/1 (from 10/1) to lift the trophy.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Defeat to Leverkusen now leaves AVB’s future in the balance.

“Punters were quick to back him for the boot after their late winner and if he doesn’t pull something out of the bag on Saturday his time may be up.”

She added: “A fire sale could be next on the agenda with Drogba the shortest priced player to find a new club.”
