Wigan 5/1 to end Newcastle’s unbeaten Premier League start

Only three teams are still unbeaten in the Premier League this season and although it is no shock that Manchester City and Manchester United have been so tough to beat, Newcastle’s form has been far more surprising.

Newcastle sit in the dizzy heights of fourth in the Premier League standings after avoiding defeat in their opening eight games, which includes useful draws with North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham.

Predicting when Newcastle will first lose is now a talking point and the next opposition to try to inflict this defeat is Wigan.

The majority of teams will have earmarked a home clash with Wigan as a winnable game at the start of the season and it must be classed as an upset if they were the team to end the unbeaten run, particularly at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have never lost a home game with Wigan in the Premier League and away wins for the visitors do tend to be especially rare.

They are still to win on the road this season and have only triumphed in seven away games across the last two seasons.

However, what is potentially worrying for Newcastle is that they have not beaten Wigan in their last five showdowns, which could mean that a tight game is in the pipeline.

Newcastle’s odds are 8/13 to beat Wigan, with the draw available at 13/5.

The fixture list has been relatively kind to Newcastle in the early stages of the campaign, but things will get worse in the coming weeks.

Trips to Eastlands and Old Trafford await in November to face Manchester City and Manchester United, but before that they have a tricky encounter with Stoke.

It is 2/1 that Newcastle’s unbeaten start is ended by Manchester City, but the better Premier League bet may prove the 6/4 that they first fall to defeat at the Britannia Stadium.
