Six changes will not stop Man Utd dropping more points at Everton

At least six players could be dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson, as he looks to issue a wake-up call to Manchester United in order to get their Premier League campaign back on track following their humiliating and history-making defeat to Manchester City.

However, Goodison Park is not the place that the Red Devils ideally want to be travelling to after such an embarrassing defeat and despite the expected change in personnel, there is every chance they will drop more points in the Premier League title race against Everton.

Manchester United have not won away at Everton in the top flight since 2007 and will be especially haunted by their visit last season when they conceded twice in injury time to draw 3-3.

Defending has also been an issue this campaign, with Manchester United keeping just three clean sheets in their last 13 Premier League matches.

This coupled with the heavy 6-1 defeat against their neighbours means that Sir Alex is preparing a major defensive reshuffle for the trip to Everton in the hope of shutting out the opposition.

Nemanja Vidic is certain to play for just the second time in the Premier League this season and it seems that he will be partnered by Phil Jones and not Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the defence.

Patrice Evra’s spot is also under threat from Fabio, while David De Gea could be dropped in goal, meaning that Chris Smalling is the only member of the defensive unit set to keep their place from the club’s worst defeat in the Premier League era.

However, it is in the middle of the midfield where the game may be won or lost and Sir Alex is additionally contemplating whether to switch both Darren Fletcher and Anderson for Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley.

There is also every likelihood that master goal poacher Javier Hrnandez will be restored to the starting line up at the expense of Danny Welbeck.

Manchester United are slightly surprisingly odds-on at 5/6 to beat Everton, with the hosts 7/2 to ensure Sir Alex has to recover from back-to-back league defeats for the first time since March when losing away to Chelsea and Liverpool in succession.

But the draw could prove the best bet at Goodison Park and this is available at 12/5 in the Premier League odds.
