Roy Keane favourite to be next Nottingham Forest boss

Roy Keane has been installed as the 2/1 joint favourite to take charge of Nottingham Forest following the departure of Steve McClaren.

Keane has been out of football management since he left Ipswich Town nearly nine months ago.

However, that hasn’t stopped speculation linking him to the Forest job – especially as he enjoyed success at Sunderland having been brought in in similar circumstances.

Sunderland weren’t exactly short of cash though and, with Forest’s boardroom continuing to be something of a mess, Keane won’t have much in the way of funds to spend on players – something that frustrated him while Ipswich boss.

He is still a massive name though and, having served Forest well as a player, may be worth backing.

Also in at 2/1 is MK Dons boss Karl Robinson.

The 31-year-old has done a fantastic job in Milton Keynes and they currently lie second in the League One table having been defeated just once this season.

Meanwhile, Alan Shearer is third favourite at 4/1 but, after the failure of McClaren to do a job there, it’s hard to see Shearer take such a big risk when he allegedly harbours serious managerial ambitions.

Match of the Day viewers will no doubt been keen to see him take the job on though.

Dave Jones may be in line for the Bristol City job but Forest must surely consider the ex-Cardiff boss at 16/1.

He did an excellent job with limited funds at Cardiff but was unable to quite get them over the final hurdle and into the Premier League.

However, he at least made a play-off final, which is more than Billy Davies – who is 9/2 to be reinstated – managed during his time at Forest.
